January Goals

I’ve got to be honest – I really struggled with my November AND December Goals. While this was partly because of the time of year – the festive season can get craaaazy – I also believe it’s because I didn’t set up my goals properly, nor prepare for them. While I haven’t had the time to work on how I establish goals, it’s something I’m planning to do before February. Especially because I also want to work on my 10 Year Plan.

I’ve decided to revolve this month’s goals around health, organisation and happiness based on what I’m hoping to achieve throughout 2018.

HEALTH

Being a new year, I really want to put myself and my wellbeing first this year. This encompasses my basic doctor appointments, lifestyle and mental health.

ORGANISATION

My life was feeling chaotic in the later half of 2017, and I believe this is because I was not as organised and structured as I’ve previously been. I really want to get my organisation and planning back on track.

HAPPINESS

One thing I noticed in 2017 was this: I am not happy. Then I started to realise, I don’t know what exactly makes me happy. I’ve rediscovered a few things that I absolutely love and I want to make the time for these activities again.

GOAL ONE: DROP 2KG BY FEBRUARY

WHY DO I WANT TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL?

I let my lifestyle go loose during December. My healthy eating routine went out the window along with my exercise. As a result I’ve felt very sluggish, both physically and mentally. I want to get my body and life back on track by losing 2kg by February (so roughly half a kilo each week).

WHAT IS HOLDING ME BACK? WHAT OBSTACLES AM I FACING?

The biggest obstacle will be returning to work and facing all the stress. I have a tendency to emotionally eat, but hopefully by preparing my food and regularly exercising again I’ll be less tempted to indulge.

HOW AM I GOING TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL?

I’m going to stick to my diet of apple, yoghurt and All Bran (breakfast), carrot sticks (morning tea), wraps (lunch), almonds and bliss balls (afternoon tea). I’ll also continue to have tea instead of coffee and I’m allowed a maximum of two chocolate piece per day. I’ll also resume my four gym sessions a week.

GOAL TWO: READ EVERY DAY

WHY DO I WANT TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL?

I really miss taking the time out to read, relax and escape. In September and October I breezed through books, but I’ve stopped the last few months. After receiving a massive book haul at Christmas (and seeing a dozen other books I like), I really want to get back into the habit of reading regularly.

WHAT IS HOLDING ME BACK? WHAT OBSTACLES AM I FACING?

An obstacle I’ll face is my tendency to put work over leisure. Rather than stopping at 10pm and preparing for bed, I’ll push my body and mind until I cannot work any longer. As a result, reading gets thrown to the sideline.

HOW AM I GOING TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL?

To accomplish this goal I am going to set an alarm at 10pm to remind me to prepare for reading and bedtime.

GOAL THREE: USE MY PLANNER DAILY

WHY DO I WANT TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL?

As I mentioned earlier, life has felt very chaotic lately. While many things in my life have changed, I do believe this stress is because I am not as organised or planned as I used to be. To get life back on track again, I want to use my Kikki.K Time Planner on a daily basis.

WHAT IS HOLDING ME BACK? WHAT OBSTACLES AM I FACING?

The biggest thing that’s holding me back is my fast-past, ever changing job. Being in the advertising industry everything is changing all the time, and I started to use digital methods to keep things in check. I’m worried I’ll have a tendency to resume this digital organisation, which isn’t as effective as my planner.

HOW AM I GOING TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL?

To make sure every thing from my life – both professionally and personally – is taken care of, I will spend an hour or two every Sunday to make sure everything is jotted down. I’ll also spend a bit of time on Friday afternoons at work to write down key factors that are occurring the following week.

GOAL FOUR: BOOK HEALTH APPOINTMENTS

WHY DO I WANT TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL?

I really want to achieve this goal because I am severely behind – I’m talking two years – on my major appointments. I know the longer I wait, the more serious my health problems could be so I really want to get on top of all aspects of my health.

WHAT IS HOLDING ME BACK? WHAT OBSTACLES AM I FACING?

My busy schedule will be the biggest obstacle with this goal. January is going to be chaotic, but providing I can book appointments in February or March, I’ll be happy.

HOW AM I GOING TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL?

To ensure this goal is accomplished, I’ll spare a lunch break to call up the necessary practices to book my appointments.
